MER: Early Fall 2001

Colleen Warwick, public high school English teacher from Saginaw offers her insight on parental involvement: I have seen first-hand how the lack of parental involvement affects children. Remember when parents were `room parents,' in kindergarten and pre-school? In some schools it might even last through the elementary years. Why does it ever stop? Because the kids are `too old?' Although I disagree with imposing an involvement requirement on parents, I believe parents should be more active in the classroom and in students' academic lives.
