Article IV
Sec. 15: After January first, nineteen hundred and three, the compensation of
themembers of the legislature shall bethree dollars per day for actual attendance, and when absent on account of sickness, but the Legislature may allow extra compensation to the members from the territory of the Upper Peninsula not exceeding two dollars per day during the sessionone thousand dollars for each term to which they are elected. They shall be entitled to ten cents and no more for every mile actually traveled, on the usually traveled routes, in going to and returning from each regular and extra session. When convened in extra session,their compensation shall be three dollars a day for the first twenty days, and nothing thereafter; and they shall legislate onno other subjects than those expressly stated in the governor’s proclamation, or submitted to them by special message, shall be considered.They shall be entitled to ten cents and no more for every mile actually traveled, going to and returning from the place of meeting, on the usually traveled route; and for stationery and newspapers not exceeding five dollars for each member during any session.Each member shall be entitled to one copy of the laws, journals and documents of the legislature of which hewasis a member;and such copies of the “Michigan Manual” as shall be provided by law, but shall not receive at the expense of the State, books, newspapers,or other perquisites of office,not expressly authorized by this constitution.
