Constitution of 1963

April 1, 1963; Constitutional Convention of 1961-1962

Const 1963, art 11, § 1; Approved 810,860 to 803,436 (50%); Effective January 1, 1964

All officers, legislative, executive and judicial, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, shall take and subscribe the following oath or affirmation: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of this state, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of ________ according to the best of my ability. No other oath, affirmation, or any religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust.

Members of the legislature and All officers, legislative, executive and judicial, except such officers as may by law be exempted, shall, before they enter on entering upon the duties of their respective offices, shall take and subscribe the following oath or affirmation: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of this state, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of⸻ ________ according to the best of my ability.” No other oath, declaration affirmation, or any religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust.
