MUSKEGON, Mich. – Teachers in the Muskegon Heights and North Muskegon public school districts agreed to switch to a less-expensive health insurance plan, and both groups will receive raises under recently settled contracts, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.
In effect, the five-year pact in Muskegon Heights will give teachers a 2.75 percent pay increase this year, based on retroactive adjustments to their salary schedule, The Chronicle reported. North Muskegon teachers will receive a 3 percent raise this year under the terms of a one-year settlement.
The teachers agreed to switch to Choices II, a preferred provider health plan administered by the Michigan Education Special Services Association, a third-party administrator affiliated with the Michigan Education Association, The Chronicle reported. Teachers can opt to continue coverage through the more expensive MESSA Super Care I program if they pay the additional premium.
Teachers and administrators in Muskegon Public Schools have not yet reached a contract agreement, according to The Chronicle.
