Center President Addresses Ballot Proposals

Mackinac Center President Joseph G. Lehman was on WEYI-TV25 in Saginaw discussing the two ballot proposals Michigan voters will address today.

"You don't need a new constitution," Lehman said regarding Proposal 1. "The legislators and the governor have all the authority they need to bring spending in line with what they can afford."

Lehman has written more about Proposal 1 here.

Proposal 2 would prohibit convicted felons from holding elective office or other types of public employment via a constitutional amendment.

"Usually whether someone is a felon or not comes out in an election," Lehman told WEYI. "So do you need a law banning them from running?  Only if you think voters will ignore that fact when they ask for their vote."
