MARQUETTE, Mich. — A blog posting that was considered a credible threat to safety led Northern Michigan University and Marquette Area Public Schools to shut down on Wednesday, according to The (Marquette) Mining Journal.
Though few details were given, university officials said they were alerted to a threatening blog post early Wednesday morning and decided to lock down the campus, alerting students by e-mail, text messaging and through other media, The Mining Journal reported. Marquette Area Public Schools was notified and opted to close as well.
Agents from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating, aided by Marquette City Police, the report said.
