The Mackinac Center’s July 18 property rights forum in Bay City, Mich., featured three speakers: Mackinac Center Senior Legal Analyst Patrick J. Wright; Russ Harding, senior environmental policy analyst at the Mackinac Center and a former head of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality; and Nancy Kurdziel, president of Prime Housing Inc. of East Lansing.

Nancy Kurdziel

In the video excerpt posted above, Kurdziel speaks about her experience fighting the city of East Lansing’s arbitrary declaration that a thriving neighborhood, including some of her company’s well-maintained properties, is "blighted." This designation would make it possible under state law for local government to seize the property in the area using eminent domain.

The video segment is 4 minutes and 46 seconds long. QuickTime playback requires QuickTime 7.0 or higher.
