On May 29, 2007, Jack McHugh, legislative analyst for the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, was a guest on “The Frank Beckmann Show” on WJR 760 AM in Detroit. McHugh discussed a recent announcement by the Legislature that it had found a way to balance the state’s budget without cutting funding for schools. McHugh said the solution is simply putting off hard decisions for the future, rather than addressing the overspending crisis created by the Legislature. Beckmann and McHugh also discussed the possibility of a push to increase taxes — rather than cut wasteful spending — to plug holes in the budgets of future years. The interview is 11 minutes and 18 seconds long.
