MIDLAND - As state officials tout the Michigan Film Incentive and the purported arrival of new film jobs to metro Detroit, an exploration of the program by Mackinac Center Communications Specialist Kathy Hoekstra suggests that the state is either unsure of — or unwilling to reveal — the film incentive's cost to taxpayers. Her findings, including footage from a Michigan Film Office meeting and interviews with the film office director, are presented in a brief video segment produced by Hoekstra, a former Michigan TV news anchor.

See the brief video segment at www.mackinac.org/MFI.

The video is the first installment in a Mackinac Center series about the Michigan Film Incentive program. The series, titled "The Scene and the Unseen," is being produced as part of the Center's Michigan Transparency Project, which was launched in 2008 to inspect the practices of elected officials, government agencies and organizations specially privileged by government action.
