The Brains Behind Brexit

Matthew Elliott is a Senior Fellow at the Legatum Institute and one of the United Kingdom’s foremost political campaigners, having recently served as the CEO of Vote Leave, the official Brexit campaign in the 2016 European Union referendum. He led the 2011 NOtoAV campaign against the Alternative Vote, and turned what was a strong majority in favor of changing Britain’s voting system to a strong majority against.

He is founder of the TaxPayers' Alliance (the UK equivalent to Americans for Tax Reform) and Business for Britain (BfB), which formed the basis for the Vote Leave campaign. BfB recruited over 1,500 business leaders from across the country, including the entrepreneurs behind iconic British brands Dyson, JCB and Silvercross. The group produced the seminal 1,000-page study 'Change, or Go', which served as the key blueprint for Britain's exit from the EU.

The Financial Times recently described Elliott as “one of the most formidable political strategists in Westminster” and the New European called him "an unsung titan of the Brexit cause".

Elliott is a Partner at Awareness Analytics Partners, a technology firm providing a broad range of digital marketing, social media and data analytic services, and has written four books, numerous op-eds, is regularly interviewed on television and radio and frequently speaks in the UK and overseas.
