Mackinac Center Amicus Curiae Brief to Michigan Supreme Court in Michigan Education Association v. Secretary of State

This case concerns the propriety of public school districts' withholding money from employees' paychecks to finance a union's political activity. This amicus curiae, or "friend of the court," brief argues that existing state law clearly prevents school districts from administering payroll-deduction plans for the benefit of union political accounts, and that this state law does not violate the First Amendment.
