Van Beek Invited to Address State Board of Education

The Michigan State Board of Education heard from invited guests today, including Michael Van Beek, Mackinac Center director of education policy, about how to restructure school financing.

According to The Detroit News, two economists heavily promoted increasing numerous types of taxes on families, businesses, consumers, seniors and estates.

Van Beek told the board "Before we jump into revenues, it's just as responsible to look at where the savings are." He discussed eliminating the cap on charter public schools, increasing online learning, encouraging conventional public schools in privatizing support services and reforming school employee health insurance.
