On Aug. 2, 2007, Kenneth M. Braun, policy analyst for the Mackinac Center, was a guest on "The Greg Marshall Show" on WMKT in Traverse City. Braun discussed a proposal by Gov. Jennifer Granholm that would change sentencing guidelines for nonviolent criminals, thereby reducing prison stays for those offenders and reducing spending by $92 million. Braun also discussed the need for Republican legislators to embrace the idea and combine it with proposals to privatize some services in state prisons, which could further reduce the burden on taxpayers by an additional $192 million. The interview is 19 minutes and 35 seconds.
