Criminal justice reform will continue to be a hot topic in Lansing this year, as lawmakers on the left and right advance various proposals for reforming the system. But in order to properly evaluate the potential for successful change, it’s important to understand the nuts and bolts of how the system currently operates. Join us to hear Kahryn Riley, Director of Criminal Justice Policy, discuss the mechanics of passing laws, law enforcement, prosecution and incarceration in Michigan.
Kahryn Riley is director of criminal justice reform at the Mackinac Center. Riley launched the Center's criminal justice reform initiative in 2016, and publishes regularly on issues pertaining to the state penal code, law enforcement, the corrections system and other matters of public safety and civil rights. She is a sought-after speaker for criminal justice reform events and legislative briefings hosted by advocacy organizations from across the political spectrum.
