MIDLAND—Over $2 million has been raised toward construction of a new $2.4 million headquarters for the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, a Midland-based research and educational institute.
Private contributions are funding the purchase and renovation of a 17,000 square-foot former department store in downtown Midland.
Recent gifts include $150,000 each from the Towsley and Strosacker Foundations of Midland; $100,000 from the Prince Foundation of Holland, Michigan; $100,000 from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation of Grand Rapids; $20,000 from the Jay and Betty Van Andel Foundation of Grand Rapids; and $20,000 from the Grand Rapids-based Meijer Corporation.
Gifts of $1 million and $500,000, respectively, from the Midland-based Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation and the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation were announced in March.
Construction will begin in May and is expected to be complete this year.
The nine-year-old, independent, nonprofit center aids policy makers and citizens in improving the effectiveness of government and private institutions.
