City Parks to Be Used to Earn Profits

NORTHVILLE—The council in this Oakland County city has decided to begin renting out city parks for profit-making events. Effective July 1, a new policy and fee structure allows organizations, profit-making businesses, and non-residents to use Northville parks for fundraisers. Churches from nearby Plymouth Township were cited in a May 6 story in the Novi News as likely patrons.

Having surveyed other communities to determine reasonable rates, the city of Northville will charge $25 per baseball diamond and $30 per soccer field for the first two hours of an event; plus an additional $60 for a prepared field in both cases. The city also will charge $10 per tennis court for the first two hours; $25 per picnic shelter per day; and $80 for use of lights at the city's Ford Field.
