DETROIT — A Wayne Circuit Court judge has ruled that Detroit Public Schools must return unionized security guards to their jobs rather than follow through with its contract with a private security firm, The Detroit News reported.
The district said it will appeal the ruling, saying the former guards showed "atrocious absenteeism" and estimating savings at $5.5 million annually by working with the private firm Securitas, The News reported.
The district fired the 226 security officers in July and signed a $6.5 million contract with Securitas, the report said. The article did not say why the judge ruled in the union's favor.
