DETROIT - An appeals court has cleared the way for Robert Bobb, emergency fiscal manager of Detroit Public Schools, to continue an overhaul of the district's academic program and facilities, but opponents say they will try again to block his plan, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The Michigan Court of Appeals on Thursday overturned a lower court's decision that had effectively halted the implementation of Bobb's plan, the Free Press reported.
At the earlier hearing, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Wendy Baxter ruled that Bobb had overstepped his authority, and she granted a temporary injunction to the Detroit Board of Education. But the appeals court said the school board failed to show that the public would be harmed if Bobb continued his work while the lawsuit played out, according to the Free Press.
Now, school board attorney George Washington said he will try for a second injunction from Baxter as well as appeal this week's decision to the Michigan Supreme Court.
