IMLAY CITY, Mich. — Support staff employees in Imlay City Community Schools have approved new contracts that include a two-year wage freeze and a new contribution to their own health care benefit costs, according to The Tri-City Times.
The wage freeze for building aides, cafeteria staff, bus drivers, custodians, maintenance and secretarial staff will continue until June 30, 2011, The Times reported. The workers will contribute 4 percent toward their health care premiums beginning in July, and 8 percent beginning in June 2012, the report said. The report did not indicate whether employees would be eligible for step pay increases.
All workers will receive a one-time, $400 payment to assist in paying the premiums, The Times reported. School board President Sharon Muir complimented the workers for accepting the contract and said board trustees have pledged not to privatize support workers “unless finances force them to do otherwise,” according to The Times.
