PONTIAC, Mich. — The FBI picked up a cartload of financial records from the Pontiac School District Wednesday almost immediately after the school board requested the agency to review the district's handling of accounts, according to The Oakland Press.
PNH Consultants conducted a forensic audit of the district earlier this year that concluded that there was mismanagement of $157 million over four years in accounts payable and in two years of payroll accounts, according to The Press. A PNH representative called the bookkeeping "sloppy," but said no criminal activity was identified, The Press reported.
Now school trustees want the FBI to review the records to determine whether any federal laws were violated and then forward them to state and local agencies for similar reviews, according to The Press.
